August's First Friday!

On August 1st, we celebrated another fun First Friday as a community. An estimated 1,500 joined us downtown Greenville for an evening filled with live music, shopping, eating, and spontaneous art projects! As with every First Friday event, we have many people to thank. Thank you to Jennifer Murray. Jennifer has been an intern for Main Street Greenville this summer. When she started, we discussed potential projects she could complete as part of her time with our organization. Jen loves art, so a temporary art installation project fit her personality perfectly. We found the following statement and felt it fit the project and downtown Greenville: "A Beautiful Moment Has Happened Here". She put together a wonderful team of volunteers who each created unique bits of temporary art throughout the downtown district for the event and created a few items for the night as well. Jen has been an awesome team member for Main Street Greenville. We will miss her spunk and creativity as she leaves for college this fall. We wish her all of the best and thank her for her time and dedication to downtown Greenville over the summer. I hope you come home to visit often and stop by to say hello whenever you do. Thank you to all of the artists who created bit of art for Jen's project. As someone who enjoys spontaneous things, this project added so much fun to the event. I love coming across random things when I am visiting somewhere. Things that make you stop and just look a little longer. Things that make you smile or inspire you. All of the creations did just that. Your paper collage and sidewalk chalk characters were adorable. Aimee Nelson (from Skein Full of Love), your yarn bomb bench project turned out even better than I expected. It was so vibrant and colorful. I love the fact that it is still there as of today. Kim Berry (from Young Forest Martial Arts), your paper crafts are so beautiful. They looked gorgeous in your window displays and I hope to purchase one for my office soon. Stephanie Schieltz, your "A Beautiful Moment Has Happened Here" Balloon Project truly inspired me. To read all of the little moments people took the time to share, really reminded me of just how much downtown Greenville matters to our community. I witnessed many people stop to read the balloons or take time to share a moment. Very cool. Amy Barger, your interactive photo booth was a perfect fit for your outgoing personality. Photo booths are just fun. Add an Amy Barger and they are even more fun. I am so glad you were able to return to Team Main Street Greenville for the evening. I miss you. Quincy Baltes, your window painting was beautiful. I loved the details and the colors. You are one talented fellow. Thank you to Bach to Rock for sponsoring our event. Your continued support of our organization is appreciated. From financial support or allowing us to borrow equipment, you are always willing to help. Thank you to all of the musicians who shared your talents with us for the evening. A great mix of different genres! Thank you to Greenville National Bank for once again grilling out for the community and for collecting donations for our organization. You are true grilling masters! Thank you to First Congregational Church of Christ for passing out ice cream and providing games for everyone to enjoy - we were glad to have you join us. Thank you to all of the downtown businesses who stayed open late, hosted music, or offered specials at your establishments. And thank you to everyone who attended the event! Many beautiful moments happened that evening and they continue to happen daily. We are thankful so many people support our downtown and they appreciate what it adds to our community. Our next First Friday event will take place on September 5th. It will be another Theater on Third event (outdoor movie). Stay tuned for more info! Also, remember that on Saturday, September 6th the Rolling 50's Classics will hold their annual Fall Car Cruise-In downtown Greenville! See More
