In light of the Annie Oakley Festival and Gathering at Garst fast approaching, I was sifting through some facts about this amazing woman and the remarkable life she led. As I was doing so, I came across something that I found very intriguing about Annie.
Did you know, that in 1917, Annie actually wrote to the U.S. Secretary of War about her teaching women to defend our country on the home front? Not only was Annie an avid shooter, but she also wanted to make sure that every woman could defend herself and her family if the time ever arose.
If you want to discover more interesting facts about Annie, come to downtown Greenville during the Legendary Annie Oakley Sidewalk Sales and take the walking tour. Do not miss the opportunity to be a part of Greenville and help celebrate the rich history that is Greenville's own Little Sure Shot!
While visiting, be sure to check out The National Annie Oakley Center at the Garst Museum!
