Street Art Saturday Returns This Saturday!

Street Art Saturdays returns this weekend, July 9th! This event will transform downtown Greenville into a spontaneous, outdoor performing arts venue on the second Saturdays of the summer season.

The 2016 season includes the dates of July 9th and August 13th. The events will take place from 10 am - 1 pm and will feature 6 different locations, including musicians and visual artists set-up throughout the district.

“We have seen the success of our First Friday events and wanted to build upon that,” said Amber Garrett, Executive Director for Main Street Greenville. “We feel this is a great opportunity to encourage individuals and families to make their way downtown on a Saturday morning or early afternoon, grab some breakfast, do some shopping, explore the already popular Farmers’ Market, take in the arts, and hopefully stay for lunch.”

The July 9th event will feature the following artists: Dave Greer’s Jazz Stompers (classic jazz band from Dayton), Megan Osman (singer-songwriter from Troy), Moments Notice (musical duo from Richmond, Indiana), Stephanie Schieltz (local ceramic artist), and Wesley Berg (artist from Dayton).

The visual artists will be set-up from 10 am - 1 pm, the band and musicians will perform from 11 am - 1 pm, and the Farmers’ Market will take place from 9 am - 1 pm. In addition, retail stores and restaurants will be open for all to enjoy.

“In June, the event brought many people downtown. We are excited to watch these events grow in popularity,” said Garrett. “We heard lots of positive feedback from those in attendance.”

The series is free to the public and all are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs to sit and enjoy the music. In the event of inclement weather, please visit Main Street Greenville’s website or social media outlets for updates.

Main Street Greenville is a non-profit organization committed to revitalization efforts in downtown Greenville, making it a desirable destination. The organization received funding for Street Art Saturdays from the Darke County Endowment for the Arts, the Vectren Foundation, Ohio Arts Council, and from citizens who made personal contributions. “These types of programs would not exist without the support of grants and donations, we are so thankful for all of the support we have received to get this series off the ground and we look forward to seeing everyone downtown,” said Garrett.

Information about August events will be released in the near future. To learn more about Main Street Greenville and Street Art Saturdays, visit www.mainstreetgreenville.org, follow them on Facebook, or contact their office at 937-548-4998.
