HOMETOWN HEROES BANNER PROGRAM

Main Street Greenville is proud to honor our servicemen and servicewomen by facilitating the Greenville Hometown Heroes Program. This program is a living tribute created for the community to recognize and honor Greenville residents and their family members who are serving, or are veterans who have served, our country in the United States Armed Forces. Each banner will be in honor of a specific  service person and will include their name, branch of service and photo (if provided). Banners will be displayed on street lamps in Downtown Greenville from approximately June 20th through Veteran's Day to both celebrate and remind the community of their dedication to our country.

Purpose and Description of Program:
This program was created to pay tribute to the brave men and women in Greenville who are serving, have served, or have given their life to our country in the United States Armed Forces.

 

The Hometown Heroes banners will be displayed on S. Broadway St. in Downtown Greenville. (All banner locations shall be determined solely by the City of Greenville).

 

The Hometown Heroes Banners are funded through donations. The cost of each banner is $200 (including installation and removal). To submit a tax-free donation in support of this program, please see below.


Banners will remain in place throughout the course of two (2) years. Banners will be removed and put back up within the year depending on previously scheduled holiday and event banners.**

After the course of two (2) years, the banner will be retired and given to the nominator.

Eligibility
​The individual to be recognized must reside or have resided in the City of Greenville and call Greenville their hometown. Individuals must have served in any of the following branches (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, National Guard and Coast Guard) and must also meet one of the following conditions

  • Currently be active service member

  • Be an honorably discharged veteran

  • Died in the line of duty

*Please note that proof of service will be required for all nominees. Copies of Military Service Verification Forms (e.g., Military ID, DD214, etc.) will be requested upon receipt of initial application. *

 

Cost
The cost per banner is $200.00 for the administration, production, installation, and removal of the banner. 

Sponsorship / Donations
Sponsorships and donations will be used to assist families who would like to take part in this program and cannot afford to pay the cost of the banner production. You can sponsor a specific banner/family or simply donate funds to be used as needs arise. In order to sponsor a specific veteran an application form must have been received for their participation in this program. If no application was received, sponsorship funds will be used where needed. Sponsors will be listed on the Main Street Greenville website as a program sponsor/donor during the year you contributed (donors may elect to remain anonymous, if desired). Banner Display
The banner will be displayed from approximately June 20th through Veteran's Day in November.  After Veteran's Day, the banner will be removed and stored for the winter. After the second year on display, the banner will be retired and returned to the person who made the application. 

Ordering a Banner
To nominate your Hometown Hero for participation in this program, complete the online application form found HERE. Once the information has been processed you will receive an email containing instructions on how to submit the supplemental materials (photo, release form, military service verification, and payment). Please be sure to add info@mainstreetgreenville.org to your address book to ensure receipt of this message.

*Please note that display slots are limited. Once the first 35 applications have been received the form will automatically stop accepting responses. We are now accepting applications for 2023. Thank you for your understanding. *

Selection Process:
Applications will be reviewed on a first-come, first–served basis by the Main Street Greenville selection committee.
Once the application is verified and supplemental materials for the banner have been received, MSG will notify the applicant of the final approval and create the banner.

 

All applications, payments and images must be received by May 12, 2023.

Credits:
The Greenville Hometown Heroes Banner Program is administered by the Main Street Greenville Design Committee.

**Neither the City of Greenville nor Main Street Greenville is responsible for replacing banners that are stolen, damaged, or destroyed due to age, vandalism or any acts of nature including high winds. Any loss or damage to an installed banner will be handled at the discretion of Main Street Greenville.
