  • Main Street Greenville appoints April Brubaker as Executive Director

    The Main Street Greenville Board of Trustees are pleased to announce that April Brubaker has been appointed as its new Executive Director. An experienced leader, Brubaker assumed responsibilities last week following the mutual decision to separate Main Street Greenville and the Darke County Visitor’s Bureau. Previous director Greg Billing will continue to serve as the Executive Director of the Visitor’s Bureau. Brubaker brings more than a decade of experience working in nonprofit organizations, including the Light Foundation, The Noble Circle Project, and The United States Navy Cruisers Sailors Association. Her passion, creativity and organization stood out in furthering the revised mission of building community downtown. “Hiring Brubaker is a win-win for both the City of Greenville and Main Street Greenville and we would like to thank the City for their generosity and efforts in making it a priority to maintain the velocity of downtown,” said Kristina Heath, Vice President. “We look forward to working together with Brubaker to grow downtown. We are so lucky to have Brubaker on our team, we know she will continue to be a great leader in our community.” Brubaker will manage day-to-day operations, as well as coordinate volunteers, lead fundraising efforts, and assist with marketing, promotions, and events.     If you love arts and appreciate craftsmanship you won’t want to miss Main Street Greenville’s First Friday event for August, the Artisan Stroll! The event will feature multiple different vendors, each offering art, crafts, or handmade items! The event will be held from 6 - 9 pm in downtown Greenville on Friday, August 5th. “It will be a jam packed night, with so much to see and do,” said Susan Fowble, Event Chair Volunteer. “We are excited to see everyone downtown!” Vendors will be set-up on the sidewalks in front of downtown businesses to showcase their items.     GREENVILLE, Ohio – The Downtown Greenville Farmers' Market returns Saturday, June 4, in front of the Darke County Commissioners Office on the corner of South Broadway Street and 4th Street. The Downtown Greenville Farmers' Market, sponsored by Greenville National Bank, is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and runs through October 8. This individual will be part of a dynamic marketing team and have the opportunity to be involved with virtually all aspects of the organizations’ efforts. The ideal, vibrant candidate will greet and assist visitors; answer phone and share information with callers; answer questions; maintain databases, e-newsletters, websites and social media outlets; assist in creation, setup, teardown and volunteer staffing of various booths at festivals; and assist with the creation of new marketing materials, among other duties.   • Mullins named assistant director for MSG and DCVB

    GREENVILLE -- Main Street Greenville and the Darke County Visitors Bureau announce the hiring of Laura Mullins as the Assistant Director. Mullins, of Greenville, will collaborate with the boards of MSG and the DCVB to promote tourism and economic development in Greenville and the surrounding communities of Darke County. Mullins has a background in art and interior design which she will utilize to bring a creative eye to local projects. She is a past winner of the Greenville Board of Education Award as well as multiple other local art and interior design-related contests. Mullins will work with both boards and the Executive Director, Greg Billing, to develop and implement strategies that encourage tourists and county residents to explore and experience Darke County’s diverse and delightful attractions, breweries, museums, restaurants and retailers. In partnership with additional community and business organizations, she will also work closely with local governments, business owners and building owners to promote downtown Greenville as one of Ohio’s premier destinations to shop, eat and call home. Main Street Greenville and the Darke County Visitors Bureau are independent, nonprofit organizations that share a strategic partnership in the form of the Executive Director and Assistant Director, a position that was created in February of 2022. The separate organizations often overlap in their promotion of Darke County and its economic goals. “Improving life in Greenville and the Darke County area is something I’ve wanted to contribute to for a long time,” Mullins said. “Darke County has a lot to offer, and I hope to help people see the value in putting their roots down."

  • First Friday Returns March 4 (and March 5!) with Show Us Your Green!

    Come celebrate the return of First Friday with Show Us Your Green on Friday, March 4 and March 5! The two-day event, hosted by Main Street Greenville, features shopping specials and a chance to win gift cards from participating businesses. Here’s how it works: Stop by the Welcome Center or a participating business (see list below) and pick up a Show Us Your Green card. Spend a minimum of $5 at a business listed on the card and receive a sticker. Cards with the most stickers will be entered into a drawing for gift cards from the participating businesses. Gift cards, valued at $15 each, will be awarded individually. Purchases made during normal business hours on Friday and Saturday are eligible for stickers. Staying with the First Friday tradition, businesses will remain open until 9 p.m. on Friday. Show Us Your Green cards can be turned in at the Welcome Center or placed in the mailbox to the right of the front door. Please make sure to list your name and contact information. (MSG) and the Darke County Visitor’s Bureau (DCVB) are 501(c)3 and 501(c)6 organizations, respectively. The two independent organizations have a unique strategic partnership in the form of a joint team that allows them to execute their missions with increased efficiency. The organizations’ have independent missions but find their overlap in promoting destinations to stimulate economic development. General Definition of Work Performs difficult skilled administrative support work performing a variety of tasks in the operation of the County's Visitor Center, assisting the Visitor's Center Director, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Visitor's Center Director. Examples may include personal consultation; assist in locating appropriate contractors and materials; provide advice and guidance on necessary financial mechanisms for physical improvements. ● Encourage improvements in the downtown community's ability to undertake joint activities such as promotional events, advertising, uniform store hours, special events, business recruitment, parking management, and so on. Provide advice and information on successful downtown management.   • Join us for First Friday: A Christmas Night

    GREENVILLE, Ohio — Come celebrate a night of cheer and festivities as Main Street Greenville hosts First Friday: A Christmas Night on Dec. 3 in downtown Greenville. The event features shopping and dining specials at various downtown businesses and restaurants amid the cheerful glow of the Christmas lights and the downtown decorations. The First Friday event officially runs from 6-9 p.m. Children of all ages can visit with Santa Claus and share their Christmas wish list with St. Nicholas at the Coffee Pot. In addition, an iceless skating rink will be set up downtown. The visit with Santa Claus and the iceless skating are both free of charge. “This is the last First Friday of the year, so join us downtown for some holiday fun,” said Greg Billing, Executive Director for Main Street Greenville. “It’s a great chance to shop small and support our local businesses and restaurants. GREENVILLE, Ohio – Edison State Community College is proud to serve as a Platinum Sponsor for the 18th annual Hometown Holiday Horse Parade on Nov. 20th. “We like to be involved with the community as much as we can,” said Chad Beanblossom, Vice President of Enrollment Management and Regional Campus Operations. “The parade brings a lot of different folks in from the community and from outside the community.” Edison State Community College has served Darke County with a Greenville campus since the 1980s. Edison State has been at its current location of 601 Wagner Avenue since 2001. “We’ve been extremely involved in the community and we have great community support,” Beanblossom said. “Our enrollment here has been growing over the last several years and it’s really been a positive relationship.” This year’s parade, hosted by Main Street Greenville, takes place on S. Broadway Street on Nov. 20 starting at 7 p.m. The event traditionally features more than 90 lighted horse drawn carriages, hitches and riders. The Hometown Holiday Horse Parade, led by Chairperson Diana Stebbins, provides a variety of entertainment options including music and free pony rides as well as shopping and dining options among Greenville’s unique selection of downtown businesses. The parade route travels down S. Broadway Street, travels around the circle and back up S. Broadway. “The parade is just a cool, fun environment,” Beanblossom said. “There’s a lot of activities going on and it’s a neat thing to see if you’ve never been.
